Event Wrap Up

Convict 100
Saturday, 6th May 2017
St Albans, NSW

The first Saturday in May saw over 800 mountain bikers hit the trails around the normally sleepy hamlet of St Albans for another edition of the iconic Convict 100. Fresh new tales of triumph and achievement were carved into the history of the event as riders enjoyed the 100km, 68km and 44km courses.

Sandstone ridge lines, the infamous kayak bridge and the remnants of tracks originally carved out of the Australian bush by convicts many years ago were all conquered by the riders. All were bathed in glorious autumn sunshine as the normal quiet valley came alive for the event once again.

Congratulations to the riders across all 3 distances, while the podium place getters enjoyed the benefit of some great prizes from event sponsor Ground Effect, cracking times were set across all categories. By the time the fastest riders were finished the rest of the field were up in the hills chasing their own goals, fueled by the Tailwind Nutrition available on course. If the goal was to set a PB, beat their riding buddies or simply finish, all were challenged by the course and enjoyed the journey that is the Convict 100. This isn’t an event of short loops around and around the same section of track, this is a journey, a trip into the unknown where the pain in the legs is dulled by the spectacular views and exciting riding.

As the morning passed and turned into the afternoon more and more happy riders streamed across the finish line, most heading straight to the beer tent to claim their free ice cold 4 Pines beer. Tales were told and new friends made as everyone you met shared the same passion, mountain biking!

The Convict will be back in 2018 so note down Saturday the 5th of May 2018 in your diary and start planning your assault on this classic and challenging course.

Paddy Pallin Adventure Series
Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th May 2017
Royal National Park, NSW

More glorious sunshine greeted competitors over both days of the Paddy Pallin Adventure Series at the Royal National Park just south of Sydney. This year the race enjoyed perfect weather in the week leading up to the race allowing the full Mountain Bike leg to be used. The trail running leg to Heathcote where the bike leg started proved to be a tough challenge but the beautiful scenery more than made up for the hills & climb out.

Both days had a high standard of close competition with a number of the leading teams coming across the line in the quick time of around 2 hours for the Classic Course. Sundays Novice Course again proved amazingly popular with a large amount of families & 1st time racers (both young and old).

After receiving some great racing tips from Gary at Maximum Adventures they hit the course and from all the smiling faces looked like they had a great time enjoying the sunshine and Royal National Park putting their fitness and navigation skills to test.

Special thanks to our cosupporters Osprey Packs.
