Raffertys Coastal Run Wrap Up

Saturday 8th July, 2017
Lake Macquarie, NSW

A beautiful sunny winters day lay in wait for over 900 trail runners at Raffertys Coastal Run hosted at Raffertys Resort. Perfect running conditions saw runners setting new course records across all three distances (35km, 22km & 11km). Plus we had an unprecedented number of 1km Kids Fun Run entrants who had a ball racing around the resort, some even too speedy for their parents following in tow.

This year the 35km course record was broken once again by both our first male and female runners, by approx 17 mins by Vlad Shatrov and 6 mins by Regina Jensen. Michelle Gailey, ran 1hr 46mins 18secs for the 22km course, incredibly equaling Chantal Minchin’s course record from 2016 to the second while Brendan Fisher won the Male category. The 11km course also saw both course records broken by Simon White and Shayne Falkenmire in the Male and Female categories respectively. Well done to all runners for 2017, we hope you achieved your goals!

Congratulations to all the winners and podium place-getters who enjoyed some terrific prizes from event sponsors Raffertys ResortThermaTech, Pace Athletic and Tailwind. Those that finished early could be found relaxing on the banks of Lake Macquarie, cheering on their fellow runners right till the very end.

The professionals from Outer Image were out in force again capturing all the best images from the event. These photos are up for viewing so if you haven’t already we recommend grabbing one or two as a memento of a great day out on the trails.

After three successful events now, Raffertys Coastal Run has quickly gained a place on many a trail runners ‘must do’ list and will only be bigger and better when it returns in 2018.
