Beat The Price Rise!

19th February 2021

Convict 100

Saturday 1st May, 2021
St Albans, NSW

In just two months time, the mountain biking community will descend on the small, sleepy, historical village of St Albans in the Hawkesbury for the 16th running of the Convict 100, a mountain bike race with a history and atmosphere that is unparalleled.

What is it that keeps riders returning year after year to take on the rough-hewed tracks and epic journey that is the Convict?

• Spectacular views along all the courses: mountains and ridges as far as the eye can see, pretty farming valleys dotted with farmsteads with the glint of the river running through the centre.
• The challenge of the course: this is mountain biking at it’s purest, man and machine against nature but still so much fun.
• The atmosphere: the small town is tripled in size by mountain bikers for one weekend, as row upon row of tents appear and everyone buzzing with excitement.
• The throw back to a simpler time: no bells and whistles or mobile phones, just a group of friends together, sharing in the journey and love of mountain biking, just camaraderie at it’s finest as they all gear up for the adventure ahead.

Let’s be honest, it’s probably all of those elements combined that make the Convict 100 a favourite for so many people.

If you haven’t made it out to St Albans for a few years, why not recreate the fun again in 2021. If you have never made the trip before but enjoy hitting the trails on your bike you will not be disappointed.

Now is the best time to enter and SAVE on your Convict 100 entry! With a price rise occurring on Thursday 1st April and with over 70% of entries already sold, you better get your entry in quick smart.

Raffertys Coastal Run

Saturday 3rd July, 2021
Lake Macquarie, NSW

It’s time to get excited to run the Raffertys Coastal Run, sponsored by Lake Macquarie City Council. The 2020 version of the event was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so we’re all in and excited for the 2021 event.

Hosted from the magnificent Raffertys Resort on the shores of beautiful Lake Macquarie, runners have the option of three course distances: 12km, 22km and 36km accommodating runners of all abilities. Starting and finishing at Raffertys Resort, the trail snakes through the Wallarah National Park taking in the sites of beautiful Lake Macquarie and the stunning coastline of historic Catherine Hill Bay and the Munmorah Conservation Area.

The terrain is varied – bushland single track, fire trail, coastal tracks, rock platforms and beach running all feature to challenge and excite the most discerning of trail runners.

An official 1km Kids Fun Run is also on offer with all little trail runners receiving a finishers medal and race number, just like their parents.

We encourage all runners to take the opportunity to enjoy a full weekend away in the Lake Macquarie region. The diversity of Lake Mac makes it the perfect playground to explore, from sweeping arcs of golden coasts to the rolling green mountain forest, explore the incredible range of natural environments. Lake Mac is a city unlike any other, there’s something for the whole family.

Race Report

Maximum Adventure Race Series
Saturday 13th February, 2021
Lake Macquarie, NSW

That’s a wrap on the first event in the 2021 Maximum Adventure Race Series, held at Lake Macquarie in mid-February.

Despite the testing conditions out on course that meant everyone was thoroughly soaked by the end of the event, there were plenty of smiles as teams crossed the finish line. A truly a fantastic effort by all the Classic and Novice teams, trail running, mountain biking and kayaking. We think everyone should consider themselves a winner for conquering the course considering the elements were against them, the category winners were as follows:

In the Premier Mixed category the winners on the day were Team Thule (Jennifer & Damien Enderby), crushing the course in under 3hrs. Following them home were the Karimbah Trail Runners (Mathew & Catherine Froome) and ‘Swich Family Robinson (Rupert & Emily Robinson).

The Slothicorns (Taylah Gentzen & Leila Duncan) were the first Female team home in a tightly contested podium rounded out by Dedo (Nichole Dean & Leah Doman) in second and A Great Day Out! (Claire Andrews & Nikki Brown) in third.

The fastest team on the  day and winners of the Male category was That’s a Paddin’ (Tim Doman & Dylan O’Connor) in an incredible time a tick over 2hrs. Belrose Bicycles (Chad & Ryan Armstrong) were second, beating home Team GB Rides Again (Will Andrews & Nick Riley).

Congratulations to all teams who took on their first adventure race at Lake Macquarie. You took on all the worst mother nature could throw at you and came out the other side!

A big thank you to Lake Macquarie City Council and Thule, both terrific events sponsors who help us put on the event you love!

A special shout out to our hard working volunteers who lent a hand despite the rain and helped make this event happen either out on course as a marshal or at the event centre and to CREST who provided the radio coverage across the course.
