Event Wrap Up

Jabulani Challenge
Saturday 8th April, 2017
Bobbin Head, NSW

A glorious autumn day greeted the runners at the Jabulani Challenge in early April. A record field signed up for the event to experience the 45km, 22km or 12km course and to raise much needed funds for the Stellenbosch Community Development Programme. Runners were chomping at the bit to hit the course, many decked out in the exclusive event t-shirts and visors from event sponsor ThermaTech.

Conditions on the day were perfect and some very well known trail runners took advantage of the conditions to set some new course records. The energy provided by the Tailwind at all the aid stations was certainly put to good use.

In the 45km event Mark Green (3.55.04) and Melissa Robertson (4.47.03) emerged on top, Mark doing enough to get past Roderick Chisholm (who also ran under the 4hr mark) to take the win with Ondrej Pavlu in 3rd place. Monika Ludriks and Suzanne Kelly were neck and neck all day for 2nd and 3rd place overall with Monika just coming out on top.

Brendan Davies (1.48.49) and Chantal Minchin were the top performers in the 22km event, Chantal just missing out on a sub-2hr time by a minute. Bianca Tuckwell and Nikki Connors took the other podium places while JB Alexandra and Steve Perry kept Brendan honest with some fast times as well.

Travis Shield took the win in the 12km event in front off Antoine Burbaud and Romeo Bernardino in the male overall category with Jennifer Cabasson finished in front of Kate Kline and Sandy Young in the female overall category.

Behind these podium winners were a stack of runners streaming across the line, pleased with the times they set and commenting on the top notch trail running they had experienced. The water, fruit and Go Natural bars at the finish line certainly went down a treat.
