Raffertys Coastal Run

Saturday 15th July 2023

Lake Macquarie, NSW

Join us for the 2023 Raffertys Coastal Run and discover the wild beauty of Lake Macquarie.

Lake Macquarie is a natural adventure playground; the picturesque lake and wild coastlines are iconic of the east coast of Australia. The Raffertys Coastal Run trail snakes through the Wallarah National Park taking runners on a journey from calm lake shore to rugged coast line.

The course will take you through varied terrain from bushland single track to ridgetop fire trail, coastal track, rock platforms and sandy beaches; all the elements of a top trail run with views that will get you through the kilometres. Highlights include traversing the clifftop tracks overlooking the South Pacific Ocean, speeding through the forests of Munmorah State Conservation Area and the historic mining town of Catherine Hill Bay – where 36km runners will pass beneath the old timber coal-loading jetty, an imposing structure extending an impressive 240 meters into the sea.

With the race start and finish on the lake-front lawns of Raffertys Resort we recommend you book in to stay at the resort and eliminate the stress of travel logistics. The resort’s amenities include pools, spa treatments, and different dining options, providing the perfect hub for your your trail run weekend.

Don’t forget to bring the whole family, the Raffertys Kids Fun Run gives the younger generation something to get excited about! The 1km course is a short, fast event that stays within the grounds of Raffertys Resort, perfect for children aged 5 to 12 years old. Young runners will receive an official race bib and a finishers medal – just like mum and dad!

So whether you choose to take on the 12km, 22km or 36km, why not make your way to Lake Macquarie this July and find out what makes this race so special?

Max Adventure Race Series

Royal National Park, Sydney NSW
Wild Horse Mountain, Sunshine Coast QLD

Entries are open for the upcoming Max Adventure Race Series Events, Saturday 3rd June in the Royal National Park, Sydney and Saturday 22nd July on the Sunshine Coast. These events are perfect for those new to the sport of Adventure Racing.

“What is Adventure Racing?” I hear you asking! Adventure races are team-based events, combining trail running/trekking, mountain biking and kayaking. All disciplines also require map reading and navigation as you make your way around the unmarked course collecting checkpoints. The navigation isn’t difficult, teams that work together and pay attention out on course will have no trouble locating the checkpoints. The changing legs will also keep teams on their toes, and means you won’t get bored!

The Max Adventure Race Series events are for teams of two people, with two course distances on offer. The Classic Course consists of around 4-8kms of trail running, 10-20kms of mountain biking and 3-5kms of kayaking. The shorter Novice Course is perfect for beginners or younger participants, where teams will run/walk around 2-5kms, bike 5-15km and kayak 1-3km. If you are still feeling nervous, we offer a navigation tips and tricks session for Novice Course teams before you start.

For a real family adventure there is a special Kids Course at the Sunshine Coast event, although plenty of younger participants choose to team up with an adult for the Novice Course.

All kayaking equipment is provided, and you can hire a mountain bike if you don’t have your own. All you need is a teammate and a sense of adventure.

Why not sign up to one of the upcoming events and join in the fun!

Convict 100 Event Wrap Up

Saturday, 6th May 2023
St Albans, NSW

The Convict 100 for 2023 is done and dusted!

Congratulations to all who came and conquered the course, there were some outstanding times put down and every single rider should be proud to have taken on their respective Convict 100 course.

What a weekend we had! It was like a whirlwind of dust, sweat, and gears! But boy, was it worth it! Over 1050 riders were brave enough to take on the epic mountain biking adventure.

We hope you all had a blast pushing yourself to the limit on some of the toughest terrain around. And if you’re feeling a little sore, just remember: that’s the sign of a job well done! The trails were as they always are ungroomed, untamed, wild and oh-so-fun, all part of the Convict experience.

The 100km race saw some unbelievably tight racing in the male category with Joel Green coming out on top with 03:58:39, ahead of teammate Tali Lane Welsh 03:59:07, who beat Convict legend, Jason English to the line in a sprint. Em Viotto secured a convincing win for the female riders, ahead of Leigh Mcgregor in second and Katrina Skellern in third.

The 68km course saw Darren Cash as the first male rider home and young gun Caitlyn Brazier the first female rider back to the finish line.

The 44km win was taken by Andrew Williams with a very tidy 01:36:28 and redemption after being pipped at the post in 2021 while Lynne Moore took out the top spot for the women.

A special shout out to Miles Morrison, Peter Cohen and Frank Kenny for ticking over 1,000km ridden at the Convict 100 down the years and joining the fabled list of riders who have done ‘A Tonne of Dirt’.

Full results are available HERE.  All race photos by the legends from Outer Image are all available HERE.

The trail camaraderie, grit, and good humour made this event a truly memorable one. We will be talking about his one for a while to come.

Massive thanks to our event sponsors: Hawesbury City Council, Mountain Culture Beer Co, Tailwind Nutrition, Retreat at Wisemans, and Ground Effect. And the biggest shout out to the St. Albans Rural Fire Brigade for their assistance course marshalling and our volunteers and sweepers for their time and energy. We couldn’t run an event like this without you.

We are already looking forward to doing it all again next year, bring on Convict 100 2024!
