An Adventure Awaits!

The Lake Macquarie Max Adventure Race is back, marking the start of the 2024 series.

Nestled in the heart of New South Wales, Lake Mac is renowned for its stunning natural beauty. Teams will paddle the clear waters of Lake Macquarie, run coastal headland tracks, and bike their way through the area’s warren of trails to collect hidden checkpoints.

For the competitive souls out there, go for the longer and tougher Classic Course, this race is your opportunity to test your mettle on some of the best and most varied adventure racing terrain we can squeeze into one event. From the calm lake shore to rugged ocean rock shelves, the course will connect all the best bits of the spectacular Wallarah National Park.

But the Max Adventure Race is not just for hardcore racers. Everyone is encouraged to participate! For newbies to the sport we suggest the Novice Course. It’s shorter and friendlier with less checkpoints to collect and easier navigation. It’s all about teamwork, cheering each other on, having fun and celebrating your achievements together.

After a successful launch last year we are also bringing back the Kids Course. Little adventurers aged 5-12 get the chance to don the Max Adventure race plates and team up for their own Adventure Race experience. It’s a fantastic opportunity for young explorers to discover the thrill of adventure and create lifelong memories.

It’s a day that will bring smiles to all ages.

Max Adventure Race Wrap Up

What a weekend it was at the Blue Mountains Max Adventure Race! We want to congratulate every participant for taking on the challenge.

We couldn’t have asked for better weather! The sun was shining bright, and the Blue Mountains put on a spectacular show.

The course was tricky this year with a 4 or 5 checkpoint rogaine to start before the real adventure began. Successfully collecting all the checkpoints required teams to carefully navigate their way through the warren of trails in Glenbrook National Park.

Some checkpoints required a cold plunge swim, others needed quick thinking/ braking halfway down the fast single track mountain bike section. While mean headwinds later in the day made the kayak checkpoints a real arm-pumping test!

We love hearing the trail stories at the end of the day. Trail tale of the day goes to a classic course team, who, more accustomed to wearing triathlon timing anklets, fastened their timing chip to their ankle. This unconventional approach required some remarkable displays of flexibility as they reached for various check points, especially those hanging higher in trees or conveniently (for everyone else) placed at eye level on the registration tent! We’ve never seen that
