The first round of the Paddy Pallin Adventure Series was run on the 11th March at Lake Macquarie’s Cams Wharf. Due to forecast extreme temperatures pushing into the 40’s the decision was made to pull the start times a hour earlier which proved to be a great move as all races were finished before the expected hot temperatures hit in the afternoon. The 2016 Great Adventure Challenge continued on Saturday 8th October in Queensland, with 9 teams racing it out in the beautiful South D’Aguilar National Park.

Starting bright and early with an incredible view at Jolly’s Lookout, teams from BDO, Foxtel, Tatts Group, Data #3, Blue Sky, Hayman Homes, Oracle Business Accountants and PwC participated in a fun team challenge where they had to flip a tarpaulin without anyone getting off the tarp!  This quick and easy challenge set the tone for the rest of the day – fun, fast and fearless!

Once the tarp was flipped, the first of the Challengers raced off down the hill on the first running leg. Read More

The first Great Adventure Challenge for 2016 kicked off July 30 in Mundaring, WA when 14 teams toughed it out in the Perth Hills in support of the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Navigation skills were tested throughout the 70km course as participants raced through some of the region’s most popular attractions, including the historic Mundaring Weir, Lake Leschenaultia and the John Forrest National Park. Read More

The wet course didn’t dampen the spirits of nearly 500 adventure racers who participated in the Paddy Pallin Adventure Race at the Royal National Park over the weekend of the 23rd & 24th of May. Cape Schanck was the start of the last event in the 2014 Great Adventure Challenge. The event kicked off only a stones throw from lighthouse, with teams being tested by a reef knot challenge. Once successfully completed, teams raced off on a stunning 10 km run along the clifftops. Read More

In the final event of the Kathmandu Adventure Series for 2014, Lysterfield Lake sure turned on the heat with temperatures reaching a scorching 34 degrees C! While this affected some teams the wind perhaps played more of a role, adding to the challenge and thrill of the kayak legs. Read More

Here at Maximum Adventure we have noticed the Victorians have been copping the rough end of the pineapple recently.

While Melbourne and wider Victoria are heading off to work under heavy skies not only is it over 30 degrees in Sydney and warmer further north they also have a long weekend this week! Many people were commenting that their training had been interrupted by ill health and or the recent wet weather. After successful events in QLD and NSW, the Great Adventure Challenge moved to the seaside town of Anglesea for the Victorian leg of the series. Situated along the scenic Great Ocean Road with spectacular surf beaches and coastal forests, the backdrop was set for another action packed challenge. Read More

There are so many elements to this Amazing Race format of urban adventure racing which makes this annual event one of a kind. You need to know the city, how to read a map and your way around the public transport system helps too.

You also need to know how to play operation, ride a bull, a kayak, a stand-up paddle board, be great at volley ball and Crossfit, flexible enough to do yoga and be able to speak Spanish and loads of other things!

The main thing you do need however to complete this race is a great attitude and a sense of adventure along with big sense of humour!

Although it was a hot and smokey day with the Sydney bush fires creating some haze over our great city most teams persevered and completed the course with the quickest racing male team the Armstrong brothers finishing in just over 3 hours, and they were even still talking to each by the end! Our quickest mixed team “Ian and his Wench” coming in just over 4 hours and our all-female team coming in at close to 4. Read More
